Thiruvananthapuram: The district and sessions court here on Monday refused to grant bail to Congress legislator M Vincent who is facing charges of raping a woman.

The court said that the accused could influence the investigation of bail was granted at this stage.

It’s the second time a court is declining bail for Vincent. The Neyyantinkara magistrate court had earlier denied him bail.

Vincent was arrested on July 22 after the 51-year-old housewife accused him of raping and stalking her following which she attempted to commit suicide by taking an overdose of sleeping pills.

A magistrate had recorded the victim’s statement at a hospital in Neyyattinkara, where she was undergoing treatment.

Both the Congress and the party-led UDF have said the case against him was politically motivated and false. Vincent filed a complaint with the police demaning a detailed probe into the matter.
