Kannur: Political murders have once again hit the already-fragile social atmosphere in the district of Kannur with workers of CPI-M and BMS being murdered at Ramanthali and Annur respectively on Monday.

C V Dhanaraj, a 42-year-old CPI-M worker was allegedly hacked to death by an unidentified gang at Payyanur here. The assailants who came in a jeep and motorcycles attacked Dhanaraj, a native of Kunnaru near Ramanthali in the district, with machetes around 10.30 PM Monday when he was entering his house.

Though he was rushed to Pariyaram Medical College Hospital by locals, he succumbed on the way.

In a suspected retaliatory act, C K Ramachandran (58), BMS Payyannur area president, was hacked to death at his home at Annur. Though he was rushed to a private hospital at Payyannur, he was declared brought-dead.

Both the CPI-M and BJP have blamed the other for the murders.

Police suspect the murders were related to the political violence in the district post elections. They have registered a case and are investigating.
