Kochi: The Central Bureau of Investigation probing the Kathiroor Manoj murder case Wednesday filed an affidavit in the Kerala High Court opposing CPI (M) Kannur district secretary P. Jayarajan’s anticipatory bail plea.

The probe agency, in an affidavit, said Jayarajan’s bail appeal was not maintainable either in law or on facts.

“He is prone to employ terror tactics in deflecting lawful investigation by intimidating and threatening law enforcing authorities and obstructing lawful investigation,” the CBI said.

Jayarajan was on January 21 arraigned by the CBI as the 25th accused in the case and charged with offences including under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA).

42-year-old Manoj, a district functionary of RSS, was hacked to death in the politically-volatile Kathiroor in Kannur district on September 1, 2014 allegedly by a group of CPI-M workers.

CBI, which took over the investigation in the case, had filed a charge sheet against 19 accused in the Thalassery court in March last year.

Manoj was an accused in a case related to an unsuccessful attempt on Jayarajan's life in 1999.
