Govt renews MoU with 14 self-financing med colleges

Thiruvananthapuram: The State government Monday renewed agreement with 14 private self-financing medical colleges on issues related to admission and fee fixation.

Though 15 colleges had signed an agreement with the government last year. One college--Kollam based Azeezia Medical College, however, abstained from the agreement this year, Health Minister V S Sivakumar said here in a release.

The College was doing so, claiming they have the minority status as per the recent Supreme Court order, he said.

The minister also said that the government appointed Justice James Committee, had been asked to examine the admission procedures initiated by six self financing medical colleges, including Azeezia which made appointments by their own claiming minority status.
