Thiruvananthapuram: The United Democratic Front (UDF) won Kasargod, Wayanad, Malappuram, Ernakulam, Idukki, Kottayam and Pathanamthitta district panchayats while the Left Democratic Front (LDF) got Kannur, Kozhikode, Palakkad, Thrissur, Alappuzha, Kollam and Thiruvananthapuram district panchayats.

In Kasargod district panchayat, the UDF has reigned power with eight votes. Significantly, two BJP members abstained from voting. MGC Basheer of the Muslim League has been elected as the president for the Kasargod district panchayat.

In the Kannur, Karayi Rajan of the CPI(M) has been elected president as expected defeating Thomas Varghese of the Congress. Karayi secured 15 votes and Varghese 9.

T Ushakumari of the UDF has been elected as the president in the Wayanad district panchayat. She got 11 votes.

CPI(M)’s Babu Parassery has been chosen as the president of the Kozhikode district panchayat.

A.P Unnikrishnan of the UDF has been elected unopposed in the Malappuram district panchayat.
