Thiruvananthapuram: The state government has declared a week’s official mourning from Saturday in honour of Speaker G Karthikeyan, who died at a hospital in Bengaluru on Saturday due to multi-organ failure.

The senior Congress leader’s body was brought to the Members’ Lounge in the Assembly at 9 am on Sunday. It was later taken to the KPCC office then to the Secretariat Durbar Hall for party workers and the public to pay their homage.

The body will also be taken to his constituency - Aruvikkara - and will be kept at Aryanad Higher Secondary School for the public to pay homage.

The body would then be taken to his residence, Abhaya, at Sasthamangalam at 3.30 p.m. and cremated with State honours at the Santhikavadam at 6.30 p.m.

Karthikeyan’s embalmed body was flown in here from Bangalore around 5.45 pm Saturday in a special aircraft.
