Kochi: The government Wednesday has informed the High Court that its liquor policy is not aimed at a complete ban on the liquor in the state.
“The liquor policy is aimed at bringing in restriction to the liquor consumption in the state. The government took initiatives in this regard after considering the recommendations of the one-man commission report,” the government said in the court.
After hearing the government’s version, the bench has said a verdict on the issue will be delivered within March 31.
Meanwhile, State Excise Minister K. Babu has said the renewal of licences to the bars will be considered after the court verdict.
The liquor licence to bar hotels comes to an end on March 31.
