New Delhi: The Central government has clarified that it would not immediately consider Kerala’s plea seeking environmental clearance to construct a new dam in Mullaperiyar.
The Ministry of Environment and Forests (MoEF), on Friday, informed that the demand would be considered only after the Supreme Court gave its order on the plea filed by Tamil Nadu over the issue.
An expert committee under the ministry said that a further step on the matter would be contempt of court as the matter is sub-judice.
The state government had, on May 14, filed a plea seeking permission to conduct an environmental study on its plan to build a new dam some 366 meter below the existing dam.
