SFI’s Assembly march turns violent
text_fieldsThiruvananthapuram: A march to the Assembly organized by SFI, the student wing of the CPI-M, seeking resignation of Education Minister P K Abdu Rabb over delay in school textbooks distribution turned violent here with the police using tear gas shells and grenades to disperse the protesters.
The police prevented the student-activists from moving further using barricades at the main gate of the Assembly complex. They then pelted stones at the police, prompting the force to fire water cannons to disperse the crowd. After sometime, the activists gathered again and started to clash with the police, forcing them to use tear gas shells and grenades.
As per reports, tree students and two policemen were injured in the clash.
The SFI has been holding protests across the State against the inaction by the Education department in supplying school textbooks in time. The activists had waved black flags at the Education minister in Kozhikode on Sunday.
