Review meet on monkey fever today
text_fieldsSulthan Bathery: The State Health Department has convened an inter-State review meeting of health surveillance experts to draft short and long-term measures to control the spread of Kyasanur Forest Disease (KFD or monkey fever), in Wayanad district on Thursday.
The review meeting is being convened in the wake of reports on the outbreak of monkey fever in various parts of the district.
According to reports, 'Kyasanur forest disease', known as monkey fever has so far claimed two lives in the tribal hamlets of Waynad district.
A total of 30 persons inflicted with the disease are undergoing treatment in different hospitals.
Taking a serious note of the situaton, the State government has sanctioned Rs 30 lakh for relief and preventive measures.
“The government has adequate stocks of medicines to tackle swine flu, which has hit other parts of the country,” Chief Minister Oommen Chandy Wednesday had said.
