Kochi: Chief Minister Oommen Chandy Thursday announced seven projects including centralised sewage treatment plant for resolving Kochi's waste disposal issues and tender process for setting up a cancer centre here.

Addressing people at his Mass Contact Programme (MCP) venue here, the Chief Minister also announced city gas projects that brings cooking gas to household through pipes, floating markets by cleaning up canals, logistics park for easy handling of cargo, rural BPO for giving training to students from villages in IT sector and resolving problems associated with title deeds.

The Chief Minister said that Rs five crore has been sanctioned for preparing a detailed project report for Centralized sewerage treatment plant.

"Tender is being called for finding a partner for setting up Cancer Centre at Kalamaserry in Annuity model. Distribution of cooking gas through pipes to homes will be first implemented in Kochi," he said.

Chandy also made it clear that meeting of elected representatives and persons concerned will be called to resolve issues pertaining to acquisition of land for laying pipeline.

"Floating Markets will be set up by clearing the wastes in the canals in the district. Such markets will be set up in places like Marine Drive too. Logistics Park is designed to ease the traffic in container road and also to provide resting place for workers and for parking the lorries.

"Walkways will be constructed near container road and beautification works will also be done as part of the project," he said.

"Rural BPO Project aims to provide insight in the field of IT for students from rural areas. Revenue and Forest Departments will work jointly for resolving the issues related with distribution of title deeds," Chandy said and asserted that the issues will be sorted out in a timely manner.

Meanwhile, officials said financial assistance of Rs 1.22 crore had been sanctioned till noon in the Mass Contact Programme that is being held here.
