Sri Lankan delegation visits Kerala Feeds Limited

Thrissur: A five member Sri Lankan government delegation visited the state-owned Kerala Feeds Limited at nearby Kallettumkara Saturday to explore the possibilities of producing feed in their country at the least possible cost.
Secretary to Ministry of Livestock and Rural Development, Dr D R T G Rathnayake, one of the members,told reporters after the vist that the team was highly impressed by the functioning of the factory marketing system and other related activities.
The main objective of their visit was to explore the possibilities of producing feed in Sri Lanka, which has a feed manufacturing unit in the public sector, at the least possible cost to improve bovine wealth and milk production, he said.
Rathnayake said discussions were also held to explore the possibilities to get feed from Kerala, especially from KFL, by Sri Lanka.
He said at present Sri Lanka produes 320 million litres of milk per day as against the reqired 750 million litres per day. It was essential for his country to increase milk production to a great extent, he added.
The KFL Managing Director Dr Anil S Das said it would be possible for KFL to export feed to Sri Lanka with the commissioning of its Kozhikode unit by December next.
Besides Rathnayake, the team comprises Dr R P M Pathirathna, Director General, Department of Animal Production and Health, W W D Sarath Haysinth, Chief Accountant, Ministry of Livestock and Rural Community Development, A C H Munaweera, General Manager, National Livestock Development Board and Joemon Joseph, Honorary Consul of Sri Lanka in Kerala.
