Financial crisis has nothing to do with liquor policy: V M Sudheeran

Thiruvananthapuram: Sticking to his stand on the issue, KPCC president V.M Sudheeran Saturday said the present financial crisis faced by the state government had nothing to do with the new liquor policy.

"The liquor policy has only been formed but not implemented. The current financial crisis has nothing to do with the new liquor policy,” he told reporters.

Chief Minister Oommen Chandy, however, declined to comment on the KPCC chief’s remarks seeking the government to relook the decision to hike taxes, water tariff and service fees.

When the reporters asked his response on the remarks, Chandy said “he didn’t tell me anything regarding the matter.”

Sudheeran on Friday had called for a review of some tax proposals, especially that on drinking water, announced by the government the other day.

Sudheeran said that the government should examine the decision to hike taxes and the water tariff. "The KPCC will study the matter and submit a report to the government soon," he said.

He had also termed the CPI(M)'s call for tax boycott as unconstitutional and undemocratic.
