Thiruvananthapuram: Two hundred and fifty tourists out of about 500 from Kerala who were stranded in the floods in Jammu and Kashmir have returned home, Chief Minister Oommen Chandy said Saturday.

In a letter to Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, he said the other stranded tourists had been contacting his government for help for evacuation.

Expressing confidence that the Kashmir government would do everything possible to bring them to Srinagar Airport, he said officials from his state are now at the Airport and would make further arrangements for the tourists' return to Kerala.

He also said the people of Kerala and state government were solidly behind Jammu and Kashmir at this time of crisis.

"We are absolutely sure that under your able leadership, you will be able to overcome the crisis," Chandy said.
