SC extends Ma'dani's bail for one week

Bangalore: The Supreme Court Friday extended by seven days on health grounds the bail to Abdul Nasser Ma’dani, leader of People's Democratic Party (PDP) and an accused in the 2008 Bangalore serial bomb blast conspiracy.
In court, the Karnataka government pleaded that considering Ma’dani’s bail plea be postponed owing to the inability of its advocates to be present at the court, which was agreed by the bench led by Justice J. Chelameswar.
The court said that during the extended week, the terms and conditions of bail granted July 11 would remain the same and directed the next hearing for November 7.
The court July 11 had granted Ma'dani bail while taking note that he was an under-trial prisoner who was already behind bars for the last four years and was suffering from various ailments, including diabetes and vision-threatening ailment in both eyes.
Ma'dani was arrested Aug 17, 2010, in connection with the Bangalore bomb blast. He had earlier undergone nine year incarceration in the 1998 Coimbatore bomb blast case in which he was finally acquitted.
