Firm action against Maoist threat, says Chennithala

Kalpetta: Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala Saturday said stern measures would be taken against the Maoist threat.

“The police have stepped up vigil. There is no need for any panic or fear,” the Home Minister told reporters after an all-party meeting held here.

“The government will take the lead in addressing the problems of tribes people and adopt a multi-pronged strategy in that matter,” he said.

“We will also consult the Home Ministers of Karnataka and Tamil Nadu on how to tackle the threat along the border it shares with these neighbours,” he added.

A gunfight had broken out on December 7 in a forest in Kerala's hilly Wayanad district between the state police's anti-Maoist Thunderbolt unit and the left-wing rebels.
