Saudization: Shops remained closed on Day-1 without foreign labour

Riyadh: Saudization came into effect in the trade centres on Tuesday in Saudi Arabia.

On Day 1, shops including textile and readymade as well as crockery stores in different cities with foreign labour remained closed. Besides Riyadh, Dammam and Jeddah, things remained the same in the cities of other provinces.

On Tuesday, the first phase of localisation which was announced in 12 trade areas came into existence. During the first phase, 70 per cent Saudization was implemented in shops which sold clothing for men and children, readymade, sportswear, uniforms, women's clothing, cosmetics, footwear and leather products and also in automobile showrooms, furniture and home appliances stores.

Small scale shops remained completely shut. The streets wore a deserted look.

Batha in Riyadh, an important commercial area with foreigners and the Seiko market in Dammam remained closed. However, the shops in Sharafiya , an important commercial centre in Jeddah were open.

Most of the shops except a few which has been affected by Saudization remained open.

A vigorous scrutiny was carried out in Jubail on Day 1.

The stores in khamid Mushait in Abha, run by foreigners remained closed while the situation was similar in Yanbu trade city.
