Cyclone Mekunu: Salalah airport in emergency shut down

Muscat: Salalah International Airport will be closed for 24 hours, starting from 12 am on Friday, a release issued by Civil Aviation Authority of Oman said. The closure is due to the severity in weather conditions.

Mekunu, a tropical cyclone continues to edge in a northwesterly direction from the Arabian Sea, now at a distance of 440 km from the Oman coast. According to a release issued by Oman's Public Authority for Civil Aviation, the cyclone could potentially reach a category two storm level in the next 12 hours.

Embassies of different countries have issued advisories to their citizens in Oman.
