Expatriates working in Kuwait's public Sector down to 23 %

Kuwait: The percentage of expatriates working in Kuwait's public sector has come down to 23.14 per cent over the last year, according to recent reports by the Civil Service Commission.

The number of expatriates working in public sector as per the most recent statistics is 80,933. In the previous year it was 82,061.

The total work force in public sector is close to 3.5 lac. As a result of the strengthening drive to appoint more nationals in government jobs, the share of foreigners in Kuwait's government sector is on the decrease.

Most of expatriates in public sector are employed in the ministries health and education. The statistics also show that among the government servants, 42.61 per cent are male and 57.39 per cent female.

The largest employer is department of education where 1,13,571 employees work, followed by ministry of health (63,270), ministry of electricity and water (20,588) and ministry of interior (20,232).

The public sector has 388 staff below the age of 20 years and 5,684 above 60. Those who have completed 30 years of service number 11,054 of which 7,594 are nationals. There are 95,369 who have completed service below 5 years.

The country generally employees expatriates only in those jobs for which suitable nationals are not available.
