Mae Sai: The soccer teammates and their coach, who were rescue from a labyrinthine cave system in northern Thailand, have been ordained at a Buddhist temple.

The 11 boys aged between 11 and 16 became Buddhist novices in a spiritual gesture of thanks for their rescue at a ceremony on Wednesday. However, one of the boys who isn’t Buddhist didn’t participate in it. In preparation for the ceremony, on Tuesday the boys had their heads shaved off.

Buddhist males traditionally should enter monkhood at some point in their lives. With this ceremony, boys and their coach gave their thanks to the former Thai navy SEAL who died while rescuing them.
