London: In a knee-jerk reaction, Iranian officials rejected Trump’s offer of talks with no riders, terming it as “worthless” and a “dream”.

According to Iranian officials Trump’s words contradicted his imposing of sanctions on the nation. Meanwhile, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani termed Trump’s withdrawal from 2015 nuclear deal, “illegal”.

He also said that Iran would not easily yield to Washington’s renewed campaign to strangle the nation’s oil exports.

"U.S. can only blame itself for pulling out and leaving the table...Threats, sanctions and PR stunts won't work," Iran’s foreign minister Mohammad Javad Zarif tweeted.

Iranian officials across varying ranks rejected Trump’s offer of talks without preconditions.

According to Iran’s foreign ministry spokesman, Trump’s offer of talks contradicted with his imposition of sanctions.

In May, United States withdrew from the multilateral deal accorded before Trump came to power. He called it as one-sided favouring Iran, causing a standoff between the two nations.

However on Monday, Trump made an overture to meet Rouhani for talks without preconditions for improving relations.
