Wind up INDIA bloc if it was just for Lok Sabha polls: Omar Abdullah

New Delhi: Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Thursday said that INDIA alliance should be dissolved if it was formed ‘just for the Parliament elections’, despite pointing out that no time limit was set to the alliance.

When asked about alliance partners taking on each other in Delhi polls, Abdullah said there is no clarity about INDIA alliance's leadership or agenda, NDTV reported.

The National Conference leader was taking questions from news agency ANI, when he highlighted lack of coordination among the INDIA bloc partners.

The national capital is seeing the AAP, the BJP and the Congress fighting each other, showcasing a different political scenario from Lok Sabha polls months before.

The Opposition went to the Lok Sabha polls riding on an alliance involving the AAP and the Congress which are now taking on each other in Delhi.

Abdullah was quoted as saying: As far as I remember, there was no time limit to the INDIA alliance. Unfortunately, no INDIA alliance meeting is being organised so there is no clarity about leadership, agenda, or our (INDIA bloc's) existence... They should wind up the alliance in case it was just for the Parliament elections.’

When the Congress accused AAP government of poor governance and corruption, Delhi’s ruling party countered it saying that the Congress is ‘hand-in-glove with the BJP’.

The INDIA bloc is facing questions about its existence as the Congress suffered huge setback in polls following the general election.

When Trinamool Congress leader Mamata Banerjee has offered to lead the bloc, several partners have backed her.

Abdullah previously made it clear that the Congress should not take the leadership for granted, adding that ‘there is a sense of disquiet among some of the allies because they feel the Congress is "not doing enough to justify it or to earn it or to keep it. That's something the Congress might wish to consider”’.
