Why don't you wear bindi: Karnataka BJP MP’s outbursts go viral
text_fieldsKolar: A footage going viral on social media showed Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader questioning a woman on Women’s Day for not wearing bindi in Kola district of Karnataka, India Today reported.
After inaugurating a shopping market here, BJP MP S Muniswamy reportedly spotted a woman without bindi on her forehead.
A visibly displeased Muniswamy asked the woman why she was not wearing the bindi, adding if her husband was still alive.
The leader questioned the female vendor who allowed her to keep the shop there, asking whether she had no commonsense.
‘First keep the bindi. Hey give a bindi to that lady. You're husband is still alive right?,’ he reportedly burst out.
The bindi is traditionally worn by Hindu women as a mark suggesting they are married.
Muniswamy's outburst at the vendor caused outrage on social media with many questioning the BJP leader's "misogynistic" remarks—that too was happening on the Women’s Day.
Accusing the BJP leader of moral policing, Congress leader Karti Chidambaram tweeted that the BJP will turn India into a ‘ Hindutva Iran’.
Chidambaram also said that the Ayatollahs of the BJP will have their version of the “Moral Police” patrolling the streets, according to the report.
