New York: The US Department of State spokesperson said on Tuesday the US administration has taken the alleged assassination attempt on Khalistani separatist Gurpatwant Singh Pannun ‘seriously’.

Mathew Miller added the US administration is also waiting to ‘see the results of India’s’ probe into the allegations, The Indian Express reported.

It is also reported that the matter was discussed at the ‘most senior levels of the government’.

‘They told us they would conduct an investigation. They have publicly announced an investigation. And now we’ll wait to see the results of the investigation, but it’s something we take very seriously,’ Miller reportedly said.

Miller told the reporters that the US Secretary of State has taken up the issue with his foreign counterpart saying that the US administration is taking ‘this issue very seriously.’

When asked about India’s cooperation in the investigation in the context of Hardeep Singh Nijjar killing in Canada, Miller said that the US urged India to cooperate with the Canadian probe.

Miller also added that he is not going to make any assessments before India’s investigation is completed.

It is reported that the White House earlier confirmed that Principal Deputy National Security Advisor Jonathan Finer had discussed the alleged assassination plot with senior Indian officials.

More important, Finer met with NSA Ajit Doval and External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar on Monday.

An earlier report said that the US had pinned down on an Indian national Nikhil Gupta for working with an Indian employee on the alleged plot to kill Pannun in New York.
