Sitapur (Uttar Pradesh): The BJP-ruled Uttar Pradesh has witnessed another incident of mob violence against a minority community, with a 35-year-old Dalit man, Manoj Gautam, beaten to death in front of his 10-year-old daughter in Sitapur district. While police claimed a long-standing family rivalry behind the killing, Gautam’s family has alleged that the attackers used sticks and hurled casteist slurs during the assault, according to a report by Maktoob.
Gautam was returning home from a local market with his daughter on Thursday evening when a group of men intercepted him near Ludhaura village, under the Kamlapur police station limits, and attacked him. His relatives rushed him to a community health centre in Kasmanda, where doctors declared him dead on arrival.

A video showing his grieving wife and children beside his bloodied body circulated widely on social media, drawing attention to the killing.
Sitapur Superintendent of Police Ankur Agarwal said an FIR had been registered against six people, including two women, under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.
Four accused, including Shubham Singh, Dhirendra Singh and Narendra Singh, have been arrested. Four police teams have been deployed to trace the remaining suspects.
Police said Gautam had previously filed a case against the accused under the SC/ST Act, while his family has alleged caste-based abuse during the fatal attack.
Bhim Army chief Chandra Shekhar Azad condemned the killing and demanded the immediate arrest of all accused, a fair investigation and strict legal action against those found guilty. He said the local Bhim Army–Azad Samaj Party (Kanshiram) unit had been supporting the bereaved family and would continue to stand by them in their pursuit of justice.
