UP BJP expels leader over ‘objectionable’ video with young woman
text_fieldsLucknow: The BJP on Tuesday expelled one of its district leaders in Uttar Pradesh after an ‘objectionable’ video involving him surfaced on social media last week.
Gauri Shankar Agrahari, the party’s vice president of Siddharthnagar district, was purportedly seen in a ‘compromising position’ with a woman, The Indian Express reported.
It is reported citing sources that the BJP’s Siddharthnagar district president wrote to the state leadership about the incident.
Subsequently, the BJP’s state general secretary Govind Narayan Shukla wrote to Agrahari stating that ‘Following a written complaint about your behaviour, and after discussion with the Gorakhpur region president, you are being expelled from the party.’
Denying the allegations Agrahari earlier claimed that the video was ‘fake’, aimed at ‘tarnishing’ his reputation.
He also said that ‘This conspiracy has been hatched to malign my image. I will present my side before the leadership’.
The Indian Express quoted a senior BJP leader as saying that ‘The party has taken action. The onus is now on the police to further investigate the matter’.
