Two Rottweiler dogs attack girl in Chennai: Corporation set rules for pet dog
text_fieldsChennai: The Greater Chennai Corporation directed pet owners not to unleash their dogs inside parks after two Rottweiler dogs attacked a 5-year-old girl in a city park.
Tightening the rules for entry of pets, authorities wanted the animals be leashed and muzzled inside the park alongside restricting a pet owner to take only one pet to the park at a time.
The notification from the Chennai Corporation said that pet licence has also been made mandatory, adding: "This apart, companion and pet dogs will be checked for licence".
The restrictions were issued after the girl was attacked by two unleashed Rottweilers at a park in Chennai's Thousand Lights area on Sunday.
The dogs targeted the mother too as she tried to save the child who was playing in the park when the incident occurred.
"The scalp of the child was ripped for 11 inches" Dr J Radhakrishnan, Commissioner of Greater Chennai Corporation was quoted as saying.
The girl, Sudaksha whose father a security guard at the park, is getting treated at a private hospital in the city.
The Commissioner said that "The Corporation will take care of the complete medical expenses of the child".
The pet owner and two others who handled the dogs were arrested and let out on police station bail.
The dogs were not sterlised giving rise to suspicion that they were kept for breeding for commercial gains.
In March, the Centre directed states to ban the sale and breeding of 23 breeds of ferocious dogs and those who already have the any of the breeds are directed to sterilise them.
