Thief who gifted Rs 3-crore house to girlfriend arrested in Bengaluru
text_fieldsBengaluru: A 37-year-old man from Maharashtra’s Solapur has been arrested in Bengaluru on charges of theft of gold and silver ornaments at a house in the city’s Maruti Nagar.
Panchakshari S Swamy has allegedly committed several thefts in the country over the past two decades, The Indian Express reported citing B Dayananda, Commissioner of Police.
He is accused of stealing gold and silver ornaments worth Rs 14 lakh from the house in the Bengaluru city on January 9.
After poring over more than 200 CCTV cameras, police identified Swamy as the suspect alongside seizing gold biscuits of 181 g, silver ornaments of 33 g, and a firearm from him.
Swamy was a minor when he began committing burglaries in 2003 and turned into a professional thief by 2009, the officer reportedly said.
Swamy, who amassed wealth worth crores, started a romantic relationship with an actress in 2014-15.
He bought her Rs 3-crore house in Kolkata with an aquarium worth Rs 22 lakh.
However, he spent a six-year term in Sabarmati Central Jail, Ahmedabad after the Gujarat police arrested him in 2016.
Swamy, who holds a black belt in karate, resumed burglaries after release and Maharashtra police arrested him.
Released in 2024, Swamy moved to Bengaluru and continued burglary ending up in a case in Belagavi also.
It is reported that Swamy frequently changed clothes after burglary to avoid suspicion.
A police officer reportedly said that Swamy is ‘a womaniser and has spent a lot of money on women. He has a wife and a child but has gifted a house valued at Rs 3 crore to his girlfriend in Kolkata. Most of the time he operates alone, watching empty houses and targeting them easily. He also holds a black belt in karate and has links with some actresses.’
