Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said the era of insurgency in the state is history now and peace in the northeast will provide a new boost to the region's growth. "Improving the air connectivity between the states of the northeast would be a huge boost for the region."

Speaking at the 70th Plenary Meeting of the North Eastern Council in Guwahati, he said the insurgency was a major issue in the Northeast that was hindering the progress of the region on multiple fronts. He added that initiatives are being taken to reach amicable solutions regarding inter-state disputes.

The CM noted that 50% of Assam's boundary dispute with Meghalaya has already been resolved. And processes have been initiated to reach a permanent solution to Assam's boundary dispute with Arunachal Pradesh.

Sarma emphasised that the collective efforts of all state governments in the region are necessary for permanent and final boundary dispute settlements.

Minister of DoNER G. Kishan Reddy, Minister of State for DoNER B.L. Verma, Assam and Nagaland Governor Professor Jagdish Mukhi, Governors, and Chief Ministers of the States of the Northeast were present at the meeting along with other dignitaries.
