‘Surrender to Trump fatal for Indian economy’: Kejriwal warns PM Modi
text_fieldsNew Delhi: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) chief Arvind Kejriwal accused the Modi administration of surrendering to US President Donald Trump on trade negotiations thus putting the interests of farmers, traders, and youth employment ‘at stake’.
Arvind Kejriwal’s response comes after President Trump announced that India and the US would continue ‘negotiations to address the Trade Barriers’.
Taking to platform X, Kejriwal wrote ‘To please Trump, our country has been put at stake… Such a surrender in front of Trump is not only fatal for the Indian economy but also an insult to 1.4 billion Indians. The country hopes that the Prime Minister will not weaken and will protect the honor of the nation’.
The former Delhi chief minister asked whether the negotiations going to take place would be ‘one-sided’ opening up Indian markets for the Americans thus putting on the line farmers, traders, and the employment of youth, adding ‘If the entire Indian market comes under the control of the Americans, where will our people go?’
After days of targeting India for Russian oil, Trump wrote on X: ‘I look forward to speaking with my very good friend, Prime Minister Modi, in the upcoming weeks. I feel certain that there will be no difficulty in coming to a successful conclusion for both of our Great Countries.’
Responding to Trump, PM Modi said that the negotiations would ‘pave the way for unlocking the limitless potential of the India-US partnership’.
President Trump imposed 50 per cent tariff on Indian goods alleging that India was financing the Russia’s war in Ukraine. The punitive tariff hit many export industries in India.
PM Modi made it clear in his Independence Day speech that India would not compromise on the well-being of the country’s farmers, fishers, and cattle rearers, meaning India’s agriculture and dairy markets would not be opened for American products.
