Guwahati: A solider with the Defence Service Corps (DSC) was found shot dead a day after he was abducted from his home in Manipur’s Tarung, in Imphal West’s Happy Valley.

Serto Thangthang Kom, 41, attached to 302 Company, Army Service Corps (ASC), in Leimakhong, Manipur, was forcibly taken away at gunpoint by unknown miscreants at about 10 am on Saturday, according to The Indian Express

His 10-year-old son witnessed the miscreants entering their home as they were working on the porch.

The boy reportedly stated that his father was forced into a white-coloured vehicle at gunpoint, and driven away.

The solider belongs to Kom tribe in Manipur where two other tribes, the Meitei and Kuki-Zomi, are in conflicts.

Hours after abduction, his body was recovered on Sunday morning at Khuningthek village that comes under Sagolmang Police Station in Imphal East.

The solder’s cousin Pachung Kom said the murder appeared like ‘personal attack’ adding that the miscreants may have been known to Kom.

An Army spokesperson reportedly said that the solider had been killed by single bullet in the head, adding that Kom’s brother and brother-in-law identified the body.

Kom tribe, a small community settled in the outer areas of Imphal Valley, raised concern about being caught in the conflict between two tribes.

Boxing champion and Rajya Sabha MP MC Mary Kom earlier urged Home Minister Amit Shah to prevent conflict in the region affecting her tribe.
