Sikh body chief alleges alcohol, meat served at Pak's Kartarpur Sahib

Kartarpur: The General Secretary of the Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee alleged that meat and alcohol were served in the premises of Kartarpur Sahib Gurdwara in Pakistan.

Alongside condemning the incident, Jagdip Singh Kahlon urged the Pakistan government to take action against those responsible for the incident, news agency ANI reported.

‘Unacceptable! I strongly condemn the sacrilegious incident within the sacred premises of Gurdwara Sri Kartarpur Sahib where a party organised involving alcohol & meat. @GovtofPakistan should take swift action against all responsible people,’ Kahlon wrote on X.

The incident of serving alcohol and meat at the holy site of Kartarpur Sahib Gurdwara is against the beliefs of the Sikh community.

After a footage emerged, Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) president Harjinder Singh Dhami said if it happened it would violate 'maryada' and Sikh sentiments, according to the report.

Emphasizing further, he said ‘The authorities should have refrained from indulging in such a kind of act as it would lead to hurting the sentiments of the global Sikh community.’

Manjit Singh Bhoma, spokesperson for Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (DSGMC), asked the organisers to publicly apologize for their action.

The call for apology underlines the serious of the incident as it might strengthen calls for strict adherence to Sikh 'rehat maryada'.

In 2021, a controversy triggered after a Pakistani model was photographed bareheaded within the Gurdwara complex.
