Hyderabad: A Secunderabad police officer was filmed slapping and caning a delivery executive during a late-night patrol, with the video sparking outrage on social media.
The incident unfolded on Thursday in Ramgopalpet Police Station limits, where SHO B Suresh Kumar stopped Azam, a Scoops Ice Cream delivery worker dropping off an order at 3 am. Footage shows Kumar striking Azam with a baton while questioning him.
Kumar told Siasat.com that Azam responded "aggressively," prompting the slap "in the heat of the moment." He claimed Azam lacked uniform, though the video shows him wearing one.
Azam faces charges under Section 70(B) of the Hyderabad Police Act, while Scoops Ice Cream's manager was booked for late-night operations. Online backlash has questioned charging the victim amid clear evidence of the assault.
