Recording 78K new cases, Indias tally surges past 68L

New Delhi : Setting a new high each day, India's covid tally Thursday surged past 68 lakhs, showed data from Ministry of Health.

With 78,524 more cases alongside 971 deaths in 24 hours, the total tally stands at 68,35,655 cases.

Of them, 9,02,425 are currently active; 58,27,704 have been discharged, while 1,05,526 have lost to the pandemic, according to IANS.

The recovery rate stands at 85.02 per cent and the fatality rate is at 1.55 per cent, showed the data.

On Tuesday there was a brief let up in the surge, recording 61,267 case the lowest since August.

However, the curve went up again on Wednesday reporting 72,049 cases.

Maharashtra, followed by Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Uttar Pradesh and Delhi, continues to be the worst-hit with a total of 14,80,489 cases alongside 39,072 deaths.

According to data from the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) India conducted 11,94,321 sample tests in a single day on Wednesday, taking the total number of samples tested so far to 8,34,65,975.
