Rajasthan govt announces Rs 5L each to Muslim men burned in car

Jaipur: Rajasthan announced a relief of Rs 5 lakh each for the families of the men who were allegedly abducted by cow vigilantes and burned inside a car in Haryana, reports PTI.

The charred bodies of Junaid and Nasir were found inside the car in Haryana's Bhiwani district.

"The state government will provide ₹ 5 lakh compensation with each to the wives and children of both the dead. An amount of ₹ 1 lakh each will be provided as cash whereas a fixed deposit of ₹ 4 lakh each will be made so that the dependent families do not face any problem in the education and marriage of the kids," Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot told media.

The chief minister had met the family members of Junaid and Nasir at a temporary arrangement made near a helipad in Ghatmeeka village. Tourism Minister Vishvendra Singh, Minister of State for Education and local MLA Zahida Khan, Congress state unit chief Govind Singh Dotasra, Chief Secretary Usha Sharma and DGP Umesh Mishra.

The two men were allegedly abducted by cow vigilantes on February 15, and their bodies were found the next day. Nasir (25) survived with his wife, and Junaid (35) with his wife and six children. Junaid also has a mentally challenged brother.

The CM further said he would talk to Haryana CM Manohar Lal Khattar to take the incident with the utmost seriousness since it is as similar to the murder of the Udaipur tailor, who was hacked to death.

Gehlot said that his government would arrest the accused as soon as possible and lodge a chargesheet for a crime which deserves nothing less than the death penalty.

A total of nine accused, including Bajrang Dal member Monu Manesar who runs a cow protection group, and Srikant Pandit, whose mother lodged a complaint against the Rajasthan Police, have been named in the case so far.

The accused have been booked under sections 143 (unlawful assembly), 365 (kidnapping), 367 (grievously hurt after kidnapping) and 368 (wrongfully keeping in confinement) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). Two more IPC sections -- 302 (murder) and 201 (causing disappearance of evidence) -- were later added, police said.

Police also claimed that Junaid also has a record of cattle smuggling and has five cases of the same were there on his head in different police stations.
