Prescribed uniforms must be followed irrespective of faith: Shah

New Delhi: Union Home Minister Amit Shah said that students, irrespective of faith, should follow the uniform prescribed by educational institutions. In an interview with News18, he added that people should obey whatever the Karnataka High Court decides on the Hijab issue, The Indian Express reported.

Further, when he was asked about Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath's 80 vs 20 remarks on the state polls, Shah replied that it is not about Muslims or Hindus, and Adityanath might have been talking about vote percentage.

Adityanath's remark had gathered flak that it was an attempt to polarize the electorate on communal levels. But Shah said that polarization is not happening between communities but among "poor and farmers". Shah said, "Many farmers are getting money from the Kisan Kalyan Nidhi Yojana. I can see polarisation clearly."

When asked about Rahul Gandhi's statement that the Modi government's flawed foreign policy and Kashmir Policy brought China and Pakistan closer, Shah said that Rahul knew nothing of India's history or what happened in 1962 and because of whom. Modi government has protected borders as well as the sovereignty of the country. He said no national leader should make such statements about neighbouring countries and questioned what Rahul was discussing with the Chinese delegation, breaking all protocols. India is facing a crunch on serious politicians, he said.

Later, on the controversial Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), Shah said that the law was passed in 2019 December, but the formation of regulations about it is getting delayed by the pandemic. Currently, fighting the Covid-19 pandemic is the prime issue, he said, and work on CAA later.
