New Delhi: Prime Minster Modi joined the few international voices condemning the unruly situation at the US Capital on Wednesday.
He expressed " shock" on Thursday hours after the storming of the Capitol by Trump supporters, which left one woman shot dead.
PM Modi termed the riot "unlawful" before went on to register that he was " distressed" at the news, and hoped for a peaceful transition of power in the US.
PM Modi wrote on Twitter , "Distressed to see news about rioting and violence in Washington DC. Orderly and peaceful transfer of power must continue."
The PM further added: "The democratic process cannot be allowed to be subverted through unlawful protests."
