Lucknow: Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, and National Security Adviser Ajit Doval are attending the 56th Conference of Director Generals of Police (DGP) and Inspector Generals of Police (IGP) at Police Headquarters in Lucknow. The two-day conference will end tomorrow.

Cyber Crime, Data Governance, Counter-Terrorism challenges, Left Wing Extremism, Emerging Trends in Narcotics trafficking, and Prison Reform are being discussed at the conference. Home Minister Amit Shah called for better coordination between central agencies and state police to tackle security challenges.

Shah also gave away police medals for meritorious service to Intelligence Bureau officers as well as trophies for the three best police stations in the country to the station house officers of Sadar Bazaar in New Delhi, New Delhi, Gangapur in Odisha and Bhattu Kalan in Haryana.

Before 2014, the Prime Minister's presence in the DGP's conference was symbolic. PM Modi took an interest in the sessions and encouraged free and informal discussions. Police officials get a chance to directly brief the PM on key policing and internal security issues.

Top Cops or DGPs of States and Union Territories, heads of Central Armed Police Forces, and heads of Central Police Organisations are in Lucknow attending the conference physically. The remaining invitees are participating virtually from 37 different locations at IB/SIB Headquarters.

The annual conference was organised in Delhi before 2014. They began to take place outside the NCR as per PM Modi's vision. Since Guwahati (2014), Dhordo in Rann of Kutch (2015), National Police Academy in Hyderabad (2016), BSF Academy in Tekanpur (2017), Kevadiya (2018), and IISER in Pune (2019) have served as locations for the meet. In 2020, the conference was held virtually.
