P.K. Kunhalikutty sets new Kerala Assembly record with 85,327-vote margin

Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) leader P.K. Kunhalikutty scripted history in the Kerala Assembly Elections 2026 by registering the highest victory margin ever recorded in the history of the Kerala Legislative Assembly.
Contesting from the Malappuram constituency, Kunhalikutty secured a massive victory margin of 85,327 votes over his nearest rival K.T. Mujeeb Rahman of the NCP.
The result surpassed the previous Assembly election record majority of 60,963 votes held by K.K. Shailaja following her victory from Mattannur in the last election.
Kunhalikutty polled 1,31,632 votes, while Mujeeb Rahman secured 46,305 votes. BJP candidate Ashwathi Guptakumar finished third with 9,127 votes. Adv. Sadiq Naduthodi of the SDPI secured 5,124 votes, while the Aam Aadmi Party candidate received 2,060 votes.
The record-breaking performance came amid a strong showing by the Muslim League across Kerala in the Assembly elections. The party won 22 out of the 27 constituencies it contested, recording its best-ever performance in Legislative Assembly history.
The tally surpassed the party’s previous best of 20 seats achieved during the 2011 Assembly elections.
Among the prominent IUML winners were A.K.M. Ashraf in Manjeshwar, Kallatra Mayin Haji in Kasaragod, C.K. Kasim in Thiruvambady, Parakkal Abdulla in Kuttiadi, and P.K. Firos in Koduvally.
The party also secured victories through Fathima Thahliya in Perambra, M.A. Razak Master in Kunnamangalam, Adv. Faisal Babu in Kozhikode South, T.P. Ashrafali in Kondotty and P.K. Basheer in Eranad.
Other winning candidates included Adv. M. Rahmathulla in Manjeri, Najeeb Kanthapuram in Perinthalmanna, Manjalamkuzhi Ali in Mankada, K.M. Shaji in Vengara, T.V. Ibrahim in Vallikkunnu, P.M.A. Sameer in Tirurangadi, Abid Hussain Thangal in Kottakkal and P.K. Navas in Tanur.
Kurukkoli Moideen won from Tirur, N. Samsudheen emerged victorious in Mannarkkad, while V.E. Abdul Gafoor secured victory in Kalamassery.
