Pahalgam: Centre had intelligence of possible attack, Kharge accuses
text_fieldsNew Delhi: Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge alleged that the Centre ignored intelligence about a possible terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir, three days before terrorists opened fire on innocent tourists in Kashmir’s Pahalgam. He cited that Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s travel plans were altered accordingly days before the horrifying incident, where terrorists killed 26 people, as Modi had planned to visit the Union territory, NDTV reported.
Kharge accused the Centre of safeguarding Modi but neglecting tourists visiting Kashmir.
However, the BJP claimed that Kharge’s allegations are not true and it was an attempt to “lower the morale” of the armed forces.
Kharge raised the allegations, citing a newspaper report that said that the Centre was warned of a terror attack three days in advance.
He said that the Centre cancelled the PM’s visit but failed to make security arrangements for tourists, when Pahalgam should have been secured with police and the BSF.
"There is intelligence failure, govt has accepted it and they will resolve it. If they knew this, why didn't they do anything?...I got information that 3 days before the attack, an intelligence report was sent to PM Modi and therefore he cancelled his programme to visit Kashmir, I also read this in a newspaper..." Asian News International quoted Kharge.
BJP argued that Congress has no proof of the allegation.
BJP leader Ravi Shankar Prasad reacted to Kharge’s allegation, "On one hand, he claims to stand with the country in meetings, but on the other hand, he tries to weaken it. His criticism of the Prime Minister over the Pahalgam terror attack is unfortunate."
