Nine people who chased, hacked BJP leader to death in Chennai surrender
text_fieldsChennai: A prominent Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) functionary, PPG Shankar, was murdered in Chennai on the night of April 27, and nine people surrendered before the Egmore Metropolitan Magistrate Court in connection with the killing.
The individuals who surrendered have been identified as Santhoshkumar, Sarath, Jagan, Sanjeev, Guna, Anand, Santhakumar, Dinesh, and Udayakumar.
The attackers reportedly hurled country-made bombs at Shankar's car, causing him to lose control of the vehicle. They then chased him down and hacked him to death before fleeing the scene.
The police suspect that the murder may have been a result of business rivalry. However, the BJP has alleged that the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam-led government has no control over law and order in the state and has demanded that the culprits be brought to justice.
The murder of Shankar has raised concerns about the safety of BJP functionaries in Tamil Nadu. The BJP has warned that if such incidents continue to occur, they will resort to statewide protests. The police have increased deployment in the area to prevent any untoward incidents.
The murder of Shankar is a grim reminder of the prevailing law and order situation in Tamil Nadu. The state government must take swift action to ensure the safety of all its citizens, regardless of their political affiliation. The investigation into the murder must be carried out in a transparent and impartial manner, and the culprits must be brought to justice at the earliest.
