New Delhi: An Israeli panellist on an Indian TV news debate found the colour of the saree the host wore offensive, as he believed the colours represented the Palestinian flag, indicating a perceived pro-Palestine bias.

During a discussion about the recent destruction of a hospital in Gaza on Mirror Now's debate, an Israeli panellist, Frederic Landau, took offence at the colours worn by the channel's executive editor and anchor, Shreya Dhoundial.

Landau, identified as a special forces intelligence official, pointed out the green, red, and black colours of Shreya's saree and blouse, suggesting a connection to the Palestinian flag.

In response, Shreya emphasized that her attire belonged to her grandmother, who would have turned 105 that day and had no political connotations. The anchor, visibly surprised, urged against dividing colours based on religion, drawing parallels to similar issues in her own country.

Landau, dismissing her explanation, emphasized that he purposely wore blue and white, the colours of the Israeli flag, asserting that "blue and white will always prevail." Shreya determined not to let Landau dictate her choices, asserted her right to express herself freely and wear what she deemed fit.

The anchor later took to social media, sharing the clip and revealing that her grandmother's saree had upset the Israeli guest. In her post, she stated, "My dear departed grandmother’s saree upset my guest from #Israel this evening. For once, I was at a loss for words."

The backdrop of this clash was the tragic incident in Gaza where an explosion at a hospital claimed the lives of at least 500 people.
