Imphal: The Manipur assembly, on Friday, passed a resolution urging the central government to implement the National Register of Citizens (NRC) in the state.

Speaker Th Satyabrata emphasised that the resolution reaffirms the previous decision made on August 5, 2022, and calls on the Government of India to implement the NRC in Manipur, considering the state's interests and the nation as a whole.

"The House resolves to reaffirm its previous resolution passed on August 5, 2022, and also to urge the Government of India to implement NRC in Manipur in the interest of the state in particular and of the nation in general," said Speaker Th Satyabrata.

Additionally, Chief Minister N Biren Singh addressed the House regarding the incident in Churachandpur on February 15, where a mob vandalised and partially torched the DC and SP offices. Singh informed that eight FIRs have been filed in connection with the incident, and two of them have been handed over to the CBI.

The Chief Minister revealed that during the episode, six police personnel and 43 civilians sustained injuries, with 20 individuals involved in the violence identified. Video recordings indicated the presence of armed individuals, including those carrying AK-47 rifles, in the crowd. Singh assured that the government is taking preventive measures to avoid such incidents in the future.
