Agartala: BJP leader Manik Saha, a dentist-turned-politician who led the party to victory in Tripura, will take the oath of office as the state's chief minister for the second time in a row.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, BJP leader JP Nadda, and several Chief Ministers of BJP-ruled states will all be present at the swearing-in event, which will take place on Wednesday at Vivekananda Maidan in Agartala.

Dental surgeon Manik Saha left Congress in 2016 and joined the BJP. In March 2022, he was chosen to be the state's party leader, and in March 2020, he was voted to the Rajya Sabha, ANI reported.

Up until the shift of leadership last year, he was a BJP MP. In the midst of a heated race for the state's assembly in the northeast in 2022, Manik Saha took Biplab Kumar Deb's position.

On Monday he made a claim to establish the Tripura government by calling Governor Satyadeo Narain Arya.

At a general assembly earlier in the day, all of the newly elected BJP MLAs unanimously proposed Manik Saha as the party's leader in the legislature.

"My sincere gratitude to all for electing me as the leader of the legislature party. Under the guidance of PM Narendra Modi ji, we shall work together to build 'Unnata Tripura, Shrestha Tripura' and ensure the welfare of all sections of people," Saha tweeted after the meeting.

BJP returned to power in Tripura by gaining an absolute majority with 32 seats and a vote share of around 39 per cent, according to the Election Commission. Tipra Motha Party garnered 13 votes, placing second.

Congress won three seats, compared to 11 seats won by the Communist Party of India (Marxist). The Indigenous People's Front of Tripura (IPFT) gained just one seat.
