Mamata leads TMC rally in Kolkata against SIR in Bengal
text_fieldsKolkata: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Tuesday led a massive rally in Kolkata, protesting against the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.
The Trinamool Congress (TMC), which governs the state, has labelled the SIR exercise as “silent invisible rigging” allegedly orchestrated by the BJP-led Centre and the Election Commission.
Banerjee, accompanied by her nephew and TMC national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee, began the 3.8-km-long march from the statue of B. R. Ambedkar on Red Road. The rally is set to conclude at Jorasanko Thakur Bari, the ancestral home of Rabindranath Tagore.
Thousands of TMC supporters lined the route, waving party flags, shouting slogans, and displaying colourful posters.
Dressed in her signature white cotton saree and slippers, Banerjee led the procession on foot, often stopping to greet onlookers gathered along balconies and pavements. Abhishek Banerjee followed closely behind, waving to the cheering crowd alongside senior TMC leaders and ministers.
