New Delhi: The BJP leader Nishikant Dubey alleged that acerbic Trinamool Congress MP Mahua Moitra had received Rs 2 crore and expensive gifts from a business group to ask questions at its behest in the Parliament.

Dubey in a letter to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla said Moitra ‘took bribes’ from Darshan Hiranandani ‘to ask questions’ targeting the Adani group and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, NDTV reported.

The letter sought action against Moitra in breach of parliamentary privilege, contempt of House and criminal conspiracy.

Hiranandani Group responded that allegations have ‘no merit’, while Moitra however welcomed all kinds of inquiry.

The business group’s spokesperson reportedly said, ‘We have always been in the business of business and not in the business of politics. Our group has always worked with the government in the interest of the nation and will continue doing so.’

Dubey in his letter to the Speaker said that Moitra’s questions in the house were ‘perpetuating business interests’ of the business group after it lost energy and infra contract to the Adani Group.

Hiranandani, he alleged, paid to Moitra Rs 2 crore, expensive iPhone alongside giving her Rs 73 lakh to contest elections.

The letter to the Speaker claimed that fifty of the 61 questions Moitra raised between 2019 and 2023 were ‘at the behest of Darshan Hiranandani’.

Moitra is accused of giving the businessman access to her Lok Sabha account for him to directly post questions or she had done it so at his behest.

The letter cited ‘painstaking research’ done into the matter by advocate Jai Anand Dehadrai, who reportedly approached the CBI with some of his allegations.

Nishikant Dubey sought to suspend Moitra immediately from the House while initiating an inquiry.
