The Bharosa Cell of the MBVV police's Crime Branch has brought back a woman who was allegedly assaulted by her husband in a central African nation. The 25-year-old woman was married for the past one year and lived with her husband who is employed at a company in Africa.

Bharosa Cell Assistant Inspector Tejashree Shinde said the woman was being subjected to domestic violence. She was not given a mobile or allowed to step out of the house. The victim could not call her mother until the house-help assisted in making a video call.

The mother approached the police and the officials contacted the Indian Embassy. The woman was brought to India after completing formalities.

Bharosa sell is an initiative by Pune Police to provide aid and counselling to children, women, and the elderly. The programme was launched on 9 June 2019. It works as a helpline for vulnerable groups. A group of women cops called the Damini Squad also functions under the Bharosa Cell. The team keeps an eye on crowded spaces to ensure women's safety.

The Bharosa cell helpline for women is 1091. Senior citizens in need of help can reach out on the number 1090.
