Kolkata: Kolkata Police on Sunday served a fresh notice to Trinamool Congress general secretary and Diamond Harbour MP Abhishek Banerjee, asking him to appear for questioning on Monday in connection with the August 27 clash at his Camac Street office in central Kolkata.

A team from Shakespeare Sarani Police Station visited Banerjee's Kalighat residence in South Kolkata on Sunday afternoon and handed over the notice. He has been asked to be present at the police station, which has jurisdiction over the Camac Street office, for interrogation on Monday.

The fresh notice was issued after the Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) filed a complaint against several Trinamool Congress leaders, including Banerjee, in connection with the incident.

Police had earlier gone to the same residence on October 8 to serve an interrogation notice but could not do so as Banerjee was in New Delhi at the time.

The Diamond Harbour MP has already been questioned once for more than six hours at Shakespeare Sarani Police Station in the same case.

The dispute dates back to August 27, when KMC officials, accompanied by police, went to Banerjee's Camac Street office to remove what the civic body described as an illegal billboard. The officials allegedly faced resistance from Trinamool Congress workers, leading to a scuffle at the site.

According to three FIRs registered at Shakespeare Sarani Police Station, police have accused Trinamool Congress activists of assaulting on-duty personnel and attempting to outrage the modesty of a woman police officer.

Banerjee, party leader and Rajya Sabha member Derek O'Brien, and other Trinamool leaders, including Humayun Kabir and Baishwanar Chatterjee, have been named in two of the three FIRs. Police have arrested 14 people so far in connection with the incident.
