After the Centre banned Popular Front of India (PFI) and its cluster of outfits for five years, Kerala and Tamil Nadu released orders to the same effect on Wednesday.

Hours after the Centre's ban came, both the southern states issued orders on September 28 stating that PFI and its associates-- Rehab India Foundation (RIF), Campus Front of India (CFI), All India Imams Council (AIIC), National Confederation of Human Rights Organization (NCHRO), National Women's Front, Junior Front, Empower India Foundation and Rehab Foundation, Kerala—are unlawful organisations, according to The News Minute.

Both Kerala and Tamil Nadu governments issued orders directing various officials and authorities regarding the ban on PFI and its associate-outfits.

Following raids by NIA across the nation, arresting many of its top leaders, the union government issued a ban on the outfit on Wednesday.

The Ministry of Home Affairs stated in its notification that the PFI was involved in "several criminal and terror cases" and shows "sheer disrespect to the constitutional authority" of the country.
