Haveri (Karnataka): Enraged over the rejection of his loan application, a 33-year-old man allegedly set ablaze a bank office in Karnataka's Haveri district during the wee hours on Sunday.

The accused has been identified as Wasim Hazaratsab Mulla, a resident of Rattihalli town.

Mulla has been arrested and a case has been registered at Kaginelli police station under Sections 436, 477, 435 of the Indian Penal Code, said the police.

According to the police reports, the accused had approached a Canara Bank branch and submitted an application to secure a loan.

He had approached the branch at Hedugonda village within the jurisdiction of Kaginele police. However, the bank denied his loan application as his CIBIL score was low and rejected it after the verification of documents.

Upset over the rejection, Mulla reached the bank's branch late on Saturday night. He broke open a window and spilt petrol inside the bank's office. He then set the office on fire. Passersby noticed the smoke and alerted the police and fire service personnel.

The police said the blaze caused damage worth Rs 12 lakh. Five computers, fans, lights, passbook printer, cash counting machine, documents, CCTVs, and cash counters were destroyed.
